This is my very first graduate student paper written over 30 years ago. It is very rough in many ways, which is probably why I never tried to publish it, and I never presented it at a conference. I do not intend to post it on Lingbuzz.

Abstract: This paper introduces and explores the phenomenon of "conjunction adverbs" illustrated in the following sentence:

John, Bill and maybe Mary went to the store.
In this example, a modal adverb maybe appears before the third conjunct. The paper explores the syntactic and semantic properties of such adverbs. In particular, it argues that "and" is the head of a ConjP constituent.
